BlackBerry
Tablet OS is an
operating system from Research
in Motion (RIM) based
on the QNX
Neutrino real-time operating system designed to run Adobe AIR and BlackBerry
WebWorks
applications, currently targeting the BlackBerry
PlayBook tablet computer. The BlackBerry OS for the
PlayBook, the BlackBerry Tablet OS, is the first tablet running an operating
system from QNX, the company responsible for real-time operating systems used
in products from cars to nuclear reactors. QNX is now a subsidiary of RIM.
The OS has,
by and large, received positive reviews, and features of it have often been on
the “plus” side of reviews. The BlackBerry PlayBook ably showcases RIM's
powerful new mobile operating system, but its middling size diminishes many of
its best features.BlackBerry Tablet OS, 1 GB, 1 GHz, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, IEEE
802.11a, IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b, 7.6 in x 0.4 in x 5.1 in, 7
in, TFT active matrix - Yes, 15 oz
BlackBerry
Tablet OS supports standard BlackBerry Java applications. Support for Android apps has also been announced, through sandbox
"app players".A BlackBerry Tablet OS Native
Development Kit, to develop native applications with the GNU toolchain is currently in closed beta
testing. The first device to run BlackBerry Tablet OS was the BlackBerry
PlayBook tablet computer.[4]
A similar
QNX-based operating system, known as BlackBerry 10, will replace the long-standing BlackBerry OS on handsets after version 7
